OUR STORY

Praxis is a national capacity-building organization mobilizing changemakers to end gender-based violence and other forms of oppression. We are activists, survivors, facilitators, and advocates. Our work brings together individuals, organizations, and communities committed to driving societal transformation.

OUR MISSION

Praxis advances transformative change to end gender-based violence and establish equity.

OUR VISION

A world without gender-based violence. Praxis envisions a world with justice and liberation for all; where everyone leads vibrant lives free from gender-based violence. We center our solutions around those most impacted by intersecting structures of oppression - racism, classism, sexism, and colonization - to achieve a world where all thrive.

OUR TRUTHS

We believe that realizing this vision for the world calls for:

OUR STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK

Praxis has been a steadfast force in advancing change in the gender-based violence movement since we were founded in 1998 by Dr. Ellen Pence. Ellen helped communities analyze and change problematic institutional practices by centering the voices of survivors, amplifying the leadership of community-based advocates, and engaging with systems workers. Ellen’s belief that collaboration sparks change continues to inspire our work today. Learn more about Ellen’s life and legacy.

It is with immense joy that we share our five-year strategic framework, which builds on the foundation that Ellen laid. It weaves together updated mission, vision, strategic priorities, and organizational culture work completed 2020-2021 by the Praxis Board and staff. The plan is a roadmap that charts our course for the future.
